Bowen Therapy is a series of gentle touches. Clients wear soft, loose clothing, and lay on a massage table. But the touches can also be done with people sitting, including in wheel chairs. People with especially sore backs, or who are pregnant, can lay on their sides on the massage table, or sit in a comfortable chair.
In the first few minutes, Karin will discuss with you your goals, and general medical history. Joints that have been replaced, injection ports, and pregnancy all require that Bowen touches be modified.
Clients lay first on their face, on the message table, and then on their backs. Karin may also use a touch system known as the Emmett Technique which is often done in the sitting position and show you gentle exercises.
The first visit takes an hour to an hour and a half. Afterwards, you may feel tired, and want to take an extra rest. You should drink plenty of water, as toxins, especially heavy metals, can be released from a Bowen session. Everyone reacts a bit differently to their first session. Most people feel relaxed, and a subtle increase in energy. Occasionally soreness increases, but that passes, and later sessions do not have the same effect.
Postural Alignment Coaching includes detailed discussion about your goals, and current areas of concern. Out of that information gathering, specific gentle exercises are recommended. You will practice each of these exercises during your session, to be sure you are doing them correctly, and receive instructions to take home. It is preferable that you wear shorts, that allow knees to be visible, and a sleeveless shirt or top with an open neck, so your neck and shoulders are visible. Photos will be taken of your current posture. These are kept confidential. Sessions take about an hour and a half.
Bach Essence Coaching is based on a conversation about what you would like to change in how you feel. Karin explains the various Flower Remedies and will help you decide which ones, if any, you would like to try using.
